What Is Fiverr And How Does It Work For Freelancers?

Fiverr started in 2010 but grew into one of the most successful freelance platforms. Their clients include a wide range of professionals and companies. Their project earnings cap is $1,000.

Like Upwork, the opportunity volumes and ease-of-uses of Fiverr present freelance workers with an appealing option for getting work online. 

And you do not have to go through an application process when signing up, making it a good option for freelancers who want to get started immediately. 

An interesting thing to notice about Fiverr’s sign-up is that freelance workers don’t have to show their real name to clients.

Steps To Join 

  • Your first step is to create an account. 
  • Next, you’ll be asked to fill out a form about yourself. 
  • Then, you’ll be given access to your dashboard. 
  • From there, you’ll be able to choose what type of gigs you’d like to offer. 
  • Once you’ve chosen a gig, you’ll be able upload your portfolio. 
  • Finally, you’ll be able sell your gigs.

Add An Introductory Video

You’ll want to brainstorm how to pack your services effectively to appeal to clients and set yourself up to succeed.

Create Tiers

Once you run out of free connections, you can purchase additional Connects for $.015 in a bundle starting at 10. After you land and complete a gig, Upwork charges a fee of up to 15% of your earnings.

Earnings fees are based on a sliding scale. The higher your income, the lower the fee. You can also choose to pay an additional fee if you want to withdraw your earnings faster.

Fiverr Fees 

Fiverr charges a flat 20 percent commission on each job completed. There is no minimum payout threshold, however, so if you complete a single task for $5, you’ll still get charged the full $5. 

Fees on withdrawals are handled by the payment processor, not Fiverr, so there are no hidden costs here.
