  • They should not plagiarize.
  • They should not infringe copyright.

Deciding On An Article Title

This page explains why we use titles that describe what the article is about. We also explain why we don’t always use articles’ titles as titles for our pages.

This is a very important point when writing a title. You should try your best to make sure that you write something that people will recognize as being related to the topic. Also, if you’re writing about a specific person, you should try to make sure that the title reflects who this person is.

  • Precision – The title unambiguously describes the article’s subject and differentiates it from other subjects.
  • Convenience – The title is no longer necessary to describe the article’s subject and differentiate it from other subjects.
  • Coherence – The title is coherent with the rest of the article.
  • Consistency – The title is consistent with other articles’ titles. Many examples are provided in the box above. Topic specific naming conventions on article titles

Titles should be chosen carefully to make sure they’re appropriate. There may be guidelines about what you shouldn’t do.

You might want to read them first. Don’t use too many words. Try to avoid using too much jargon. Make sure your title makes sense.
